The Moomins
It all started with a Moomin-like character Tove Jansson called Snork and used as a signature. She created the first actual Moomin story during the second world war, seeking comfort in the world of fairy tales. In addition to the nine chapter books about the Moomins, Tove Jansson wrote and illustrated three beloved Moomin picture books and a comic strip published in the London-based newspaper The Evening News. The comic strip was syndicated throughout the Commonwealth which led to the Moomins gaining worldwide fame. The sudden popularity of the Moomins subsequently took them to the theatre stage, the tv screen and into the world of merchandise – and the rest is history.
